“Boulette” (A fine example of the numerous influences Mauritian cuisine)
Boulette
also known as dumplings is a popular Chinese-Mauritian street food enjoyed by mostly
every Mauritian. If you're looking for some piping hot boulettes, you're sure
to find them around any street of China Town in Port Louis. But not only there, you can find the dumpling seller also referred to as “marchand boulettes” all
over the island. They are sometimes also available in some restaurants and of
course the hotel you're residing in. There are huge varieties of dumplings
available some of which are the boulettes chou-chou (chayote), sao-mai (chayote
wrapped in rice paper), boulette poisson (fish ball) and many more.
Can’t
get rid of the hangover from last night's party? Well! Here is your remedy- have
a bowl of dumplings, served in a very hot light broth. It does actually work to
be honest! But I also normally enjoy eating these dumplings at the end of my
classes with my friends.
A
mate advice: Don’t forget to add a little bit of chili sauce on your dumplings,
it will make it better.
